by Daryl Nuss People often ask me about the mission and purpose of the National Network of Youth Ministries (NNYM). That’s a great question. In short, our mission is to convene or unite youth workers and like-minded people to work together to minister to our precious young people. As a result, those who come together (locally, nationally, and globally) are more effective in their part of the harvest. Let me give you a good example of what this looks like in our own community. Last Wednesday, fifteen youth workers from eight diverse churches and groups met at a local church for our monthly network meeting to pray together, build trusting relationships, and determine ways that we can share resources and work together to reach youth in our community. At this meeting, we focused on student prayer and how we can best help them engage with See You at the Pole, September 25. For the past 20 years, NNYM has facilitated and promoted the See You at the Pole initiative where upwards to two million middle and high school students gather around their school flagpoles to pray for their classmates, teachers, and for their country. This year, students are challenged to not only assemble for SYATP but make the entire week of September 22-28 a Global Student Week of Prayer. Please be in prayer for our local youth workers and the students that they serve. Despite what you see or hear on the news, we have some wonderful young students in our schools who love Christ and are following him to be faithful witnesses. During the coming months, I’m excited to share specific updates and examples of what it means to unite and work together in sharing and living out the gospel with our youth.

by Frank Miley The above subject was the priority throughout my Navy career as a Naval Aviator. I spent 21 years as a Naval carrier pilot. I started out fighting during the Vietnam War, involved in trying to rescue the USS Pueblo, and the Cold War. My training always involved learning how to defeat Russia and the spread of Communism. I survived over 1500 aircraft carrier landings made in day and night and in all kinds of weather. There is only one way that I could have completed all those years if it were not for God in my life. When ever I stop to wonder why I survived all those years while many of my fellow aviators did not, I can only figure that God had a plan for me and was always by my side. I talked to Him often and prayed often. I retired from the Navy in 1985. After my Naval career I flew for the Airlines. My priority changed. God was still number one, but family became #2. During my airline career I was able to share Jesus Christ with my copilots, flight attendants and ground crew personnel. I retired from this job in 2001. Since 2001 I have volunteered for several Christ based events, such as Helping Hands, being an Elder, and playing my clarinet at various senior citizen homes. In 2009 I volunteered to become a Docent on the USS Midway. In reality, I never wanted to see another aircraft carrier again. They brought back many sad memories and memories of missing so many family gatherings and holidays. But somewhere along the way I was talked into becoming a Docent by my dear friend and fellow aviator Chuck Schroeder. I think that God wanted to show me why He had led me to survive all those years. God is still number one, I ask for His blessing every morning before I start out. My amazing wife Barbara was there by my side always. Often I know that God spoke to me through her, because sometimes I was not listening to Him. I get questions from visitors to the USS Midway such as: How did you overcome fear? Weren't you scared? This is so hard to fathom, how did you train for this? And the questions come every day I am there. My answer always includes being Blessed by God, by His Grace, and by answered prayer. I was God's copilot. I walked the walk now I am able to talk the talk. I was able to start The USS Midway Prayer Team this past year. We have 14 members on the prayer team and our goal is to pray for fellow members, their families and friends that are ill or on need of prayer. Some one sends me a request and I forward the request to our Team. The answers to these prayers are awesome and inspiring. Yes miracles still happen. By the Grace of God go I. Frank Miley Ever wondered how to engage others in discussing your Christian beliefs? Intimidating isn't it? Greg Koukl, founder and president of Stand to Reason (http://www.str.org) will be offering a workshop in Rancho Bernardo. His tactics are not focused on the specifics of a particular theology, but more so on how to have a graceful and effective engagement about issues of faith, particularly with skeptics and non-believers. Greg is an author, talk show host, and expert in apologetics. The workshop is free, but you must sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/ljblphu Date: Saturday, August 17th
Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm Location: LifeBridge Cafe (upper campus) 17645 West Bernardo Drive, SD 92127 Marty and I have been involved in various Prayer Ministries for 20+ years. We have experienced great blessings personally and seen God do some amazing work in others. However, we have never seen anything like what happens when individuals experience the “Christian Principles to Freedom” seminars presented by His Dwelling Place Ministry. This seminar is based on recognition that the majority of all illnesses, both physical and emotional, have a spiritual basis. God created us in His image (spiritual beings) and gave us the perfect place (earth) to enjoy with Him. Death, Disease and Dysfunction entered into our world and our lives through the work of Satan, the father of lies. We unknowingly accept many of these lies as truth and allow Satan to have way more influence and impact on our lives than necessary. This seminar not only exposes these lies, but gives us very effective tools to use to overcome these false beliefs and their impact on our lives and the lives of others. In addition to experiencing personal physical and emotional healings, we have had to joy of seeing God do His good work to heal many others from a wide range of issues. Marty and I support this ministry through participation in their seminars and by helping to organize and promote them to individuals and churches. The most life changing thing we have learned through this ministry is that there is a great difference between a well-intentioned prayer and an effective prayer. Our goal is to see lives transformed and to be transformed by applying the Biblical principles God laid out for us in His Word. Well here we are a couple of days after celebrating 4th of July for our beloved America! So as you at home enjoyed festivities with friends and family, Sandee and I were reminded here in another country how precious our America is to us. So we pray your day was special and blessed. PUERTO RICO It has been a productive and God honoring time for the MOTE ministries. The team leaders in Dominican Republic and our new leaders in Panama are busy carrying out their assignments. The investment of our time and resources since the start of 2013 are freeing us up to take care of some personal issues. We are preparing, as we did in the Dominican Republic, for hurricane season. The forecasters are saying for this season, “be prepared – be alert A BIG SEASON AHEAD!” Through our Puerto Rico MOTE leadership conferences in 2011 and 2012, we made some wonderful relationships. Our new friends are helping us settle into our mission house and assisting us in preparing our roof the “Puerto Rican Way”. Sandee and I were up on our roof via our “ingenious ladder”, cutting back trees, patching cracks, filling holes in the roof as we began to lay down the “gooyee” sealant. Chap’s not always preaching and teaching – Sandee is not always in front of the computer – we are mixing it up “ON THE ROOF”!! How we thank YOU Jesus for our brothers and sisters in Christ all around this world. SAN DIEGO Afterschool Homework Club: In early June, I went back to San Diego for two (2) important events. The first was to officially sign the 2013 -2014 -- P. U. S. D ASES contract. This is MOTE’s Faith Based Christ Honoring “After School Homework Club” within California’s Public School System … But GOD! The Poway Unified School District, Student Services Director, Dr Elaine CoFrancesco said, “MOTE’s program sets a standard of excellence in character based programs that our other programs look to the Home Work Club as the base model.” Praise be to God for the wonderful guidance of Itziar Haumschilt, MOTE’s faithful leader and key role model for this Christ-Centered Children’s program. MOTE is now going into its 14th year in the public school district. Bethel University - Seminary: The second important event for me as an Adj. Professor/Faculty Associate in the Global Contextual Department of Bethel was to be able to participate in this year’s graduation. I was privileged to be a mentor for one of the graduates, David DeMers, who received his M.Th degree. David has joined MOTE on several occasions in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico assisting in the MOTE leadership conferences. He is a gifted teacher and we are hoping he will answer the call to become a full time missionary with MOTE in the Dominican Republic. David will be with the Bethel team coming July 22 – 28 for the 3 day MOTE – BETHEL-UNEV leadership conference in D R. PANAMA The 5th nation in MOTE Ministry has taken root (USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico,) and # 5 Panama. The MOTE team leader for prison ministries in the Dominican Republic, Pastor Lideo Puente, assisted me in developing the leaders in Panama. MOTE sent Pastor Lidio in 2012 at the invitation from the Panama Evangelical Christian Assoc., to learn about the MOTE Christ Centered Prison Reform Programs. The two trips prepared the way for me to arrive in May and June 2013 to launch Panama. The four trips included the recent June 10 conference, several workshops, prison visits and evaluations, meetings with prison administrators, government leaders and prison ministry chaplains. Panama prison programs have minimal organized ministry or Christian training for leaders outside or inside the prison walls. The Lord’s timing is perfect! MOTE’s four component reform program fits their need and is now implementing the “D R Model” that is documented and ready to put into action. The June 10th conference in Panama City was the largest gathering of church, community and government leaders (105 key leaders) for any prison related event. The two years in planning, traveling and surveying was confirmed with the attendance and approval of all the collaborative leaders. They are in unity to implement the MOTE Prison Model. The perseverance and consistency of the MOTE leadership in the Dominican Republic as well as the documented data of qualitative and quantitative research added credibility to MOTE’s programs. It is with CONFIDENT ASSURANCE that we are moving forward with Panama. It has been a busy June with a lot of travel. And, it was having this CONFIDENT ASSURANCE that we knew that we knew your prayers were ahead – above – below and behind us which strengthened us as we moved with the authority of God. Sandee and I made this commitment and sacrifice to see that HIS WORK would be carried out as HE orchestrated it all for us to be “do’ers of the word not merely hearers..” (James 1:22) We see the fruit of all us – prayer partners – donors – volunteers and leaders - all of us working together in the labor of love under HIS mighty guidance! “Commit your way to the Lord……..” and HE WILL DIRECT AND DID DIRECT OUR PATH…FOR HIS GLORY IN ALL THAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED! WE ARE praying for a double blessing upon you for caring and sharing your prayers and resources with us! You are participating in KINGDOM BUILDING as a member of the MOTE TEAM. NOW THIS IS CONFIDENT ASSURANCE!
I was raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Being from a broken home, I gave my life to the Lord at the age of ten after hearing that God loved me enough to send his son Jesus to die for me. I attended Phoenix Christian High School where I played football and wrestled. I studied mechanical engineering at Northern Arizona University and graduated in 2002. Through a mutual friend, I met Amber at NAU. We were married in the summer of 2000.
After college, Amber and I served at a Christian Camp in Ramona, California. During that time we attended the Rock Church in San Diego where I became involved in leading small groups and Men's discipleship. We were called to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the San Diego North County Inland Representative in 2007. We now have two little girls, Cora and Hannah and live in the Poway area. We enjoy being a part of God reaching the hearts and minds of young people with His Good News. |
